What is disc golf?

Disc golf is an outdoor sport played with specialized flying discs, and the goal is to complete the entire disc golf course with as few throws as possible. These courses typically consist of nine or eighteen uniquely designed holes, each featuring a disc golf basket. The game is played similarly to traditional golf, where each throw is made from the spot where the previous disc landed. The disc is thrown until it lands in the basket.

Disc golf is a highly accessible sport. It is easy to learn since its basic element involves throwing a flying disc. People of all ages and physical fitness levels can participate. To start playing, all you need is a disc golf disc, which costs between €10-20.

TYPES OF DISC GOLF DISCS

Drivers

Distance drivers, as their name suggests, have the greatest potential to cover longer distances. However, achieving this requires a higher throwing speed to ensure the discs fly according to their intended flight characteristics. Distance drivers feature wider and sharper rims. These discs are not the best choice for beginners or players with slower arm speeds.

Fairway drivers

Fairway drivers have slightly narrower rims than distance drivers, making them easier to control due to their lower flight speed. While fairway drivers have less flight potential, they are an excellent choice for more stable flight paths, easier throws, and straighter flights. Fairway drivers are usually the best option for beginners to start with.

Midrange

Mid-range discs have smaller rims that fit comfortably in the hand and slightly deeper inner rims compared to distance or fairway drivers. Straight mid-range discs are often chosen as a first disc due to their versatility. These discs typically fly with a straight and consistent flight path, making them suitable for both long and short throws. This category of discs flies slower, making them easier to control and better for landing in a desired position on the way to the basket.

Putters

Putters are the deepest and slowest disc golf discs, with the thinnest rims. These discs are designed for putting into the basket but can also be effectively used for approach shots or even as drivers in narrower corridors due to their straight flight path. Putters have the least tendency to deviate from the throw's trajectory, as they are the slowest discs, and their depth helps them stop more quickly upon contacting the ground.
